14th Annual Buckeye Bonanza Online Auction – Ohio State Equine Program

Bid from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Proceeds from the sale of these horses benefit the Ohio State Equine Program.

Horses have been a part of The Ohio State University since 1902.  Ohio State registered its first AQHA foal in 1960, a filly named Peppy Jo Rio by Peppy’s Wimpy.  To date, the university’s equine program has produced more than 400 foals.  Many of Ohio State’s homebreds have earned AQHA points in performance and halter in addition to performance Registers of Merit and Superiors. They also include NCHA and NRHA money-earners, and have been successful producers of performers as well.

The equine breeding program still focuses on producing versatile, athletic horses with excellent conformation and good temperaments. The school maintains a herd of approximately 30 American Quarter Horses, including two stallions, broodmares and young stock that are used for the school’s teaching, research and extension activities.  We know that horses are excellent teachers so it comes as no surprise that one of our greatest achievements is the number of students that have learned from our horses and become better horsemen.  From the basics of horse behavior and training to physiology, reproduction and nutrition, our American Quarter Horses provide excellent hands-on learning educational opportunities for our students.
